Dr Frederick Bukachi MbChB,MMed,MSc.PhD<\/h2>[vc_column_text css=”” el_class=”no-margin description”]The proprietor Dr Frederick Bukachi is a well known cardiologist both locally and internationally. He is a PhD holder in Clinical Cardiology from Sweden; a graduate of Imperial College, University of London and a member of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, UK. He is highly skilled in cardiovascular investigations and patient care. His contribution to the medical profession was recognized in 2009 when he was honoured by being included in the Marquis Who\u2019s Who in the world.<\/p>\n

He is a member of various medical and cardiac societies and associations. Currently, he is a Senior lecturer in the department of Medical
\nPhysiology at the University of Nairobi and offers honorary consultancy services as a physician\/cardiologist at the Kenyatta National and referral hospital. He is the current chair of the National E-Health Working Group (Kenya).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/4″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”3\/4″][vc_custom_heading text=”Echo for Life Training” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center” css=””][vc_tta_tour active_section=”1″ no_fill_content_area=”true”][vc_tta_section i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-solid fa-user-doctor” add_icon=”true” title=”Echo For Life (EFL)” tab_id=”EFL”][vc_column_text css=””]Echo for Life\u00a0 is the first transthoracic Echocardiography course for clinical practice in Kenya. The course is held collaboratively with private sector
\npartners and the University of Nairobi (UNES Short courses), Nairobi. It is specifically designed to accommodate the evolving needs in cardiovascular medicine.<\/p>\n

Echocardiography is a non-invasive imaging technique used in the diagnosis of diseases of cardiac structure and function. The technique is invaluable in the management of patients with heart disease, yet there are less than 20 well trained echocardiographers in Kenya serving a population of over 45 million. The purpose of the course is two- fold: to increase the number of echocardiographers in Kenya and effectively improve the care of cardiac patients in the country. Thus, the course name \u2013\u00a0Echo for Life.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-solid fa-route” add_icon=”true” title=”EFL Outline” tab_id=”EFL-Outline”][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Topics covered will include basic principles and physics of
\nechocardiography; normal cardiac anatomy and examination; M-Mode
\nand 2-D echocardiography; Echo assessment of systolic and diastolic
\nfunction, basic and advanced haemodynamics; assessment of valvular
\nand pericardial diseases; assessment of hypertensive\/coronary heart
\ndisease and heart failure. Echo data interpretation and report writing will
\nalso be covered. The attendees will be introduced to new techniques in
\nEchocardiography.<\/p>\n

Course objectives<\/h3>\n

After completing the course, the learner will be able to:<\/p>\n

  • Describe the basic principles and physics of echocardiography<\/li>\n
  • Identify the normal cardiac anatomy and examination<\/li>\n
  • Explain the Echo assessment of systolic function<\/li>\n
  • Assess the diastolic function, hemodynamic flow<\/li>\n
  • Identify and assess valvular and pericardial diseases<\/li>\n
  • Assess hypertensive\/coronary heart disease and heart failure<\/li>\n
  • Interpret transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) data and write a
    \nreport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Course duration<\/h3>\n

    Three (3) months from March 5 th 2018. Three (3)
    \ncourses will be offered in 2018 and an additional two (2) in 2019.<\/p>\n
